Important points to remember from phylum porifera :

• Body Wall Has outer pinacoderm, inner choanoderm made up of choanocytes or collar cells and a gelatinous acellular mesenchyme between them.
• They have Canal Sytem. It has minute pores on body wall called ostia through which water enters in central cavity- spongocoel from where it moves out through the osculum.
• Digestion is intracellular.
• Skeleton may be calcareous or siliceous spicular or made up of fine spongin fibres or all.
• They are hermaphrodites
• Asexual reproduction by budding and gemmule formation
• Sexually by gamete formation
• Fertilization is internal
• Development is indirect.
