It is not mandatory to appear in practical's if you are giving improvement exams. The marks of practical's which you have scored previously will be added to your improvement marksheet.

If you are giving a whole individual paper in your improvement exam which consist of both theory and practical papers both, then you will have to givw the exam on both the papers. Though it might sound tedious but sitting for both theory and practical papers might increase your score on the whole.
