I think you want to know the procedure by which Indian millitary academy cadets choose their regiments. This is done in a event called 'Choice of Arms'. You are asked your choice of arm or service. And the final selection will depend upon your choice of arm, your rank in the merit and vacancies in every battalion. However anyone with parental claim or top 5 candidates get the same arm of their choice.
