Hello,
To become an IPS officer , you have to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination .
For this exam, you must have a graduation degree in any stream: Arts, Science, or Commerce. So, you can choose any subject in your graduation.
However, some subjects are considered more helpful for UPSC preparation, such as:
Political Science
History
Geography
Economics
Sociology
Public Administration
These subjects are similar to the UPSC syllabus, so they can help you in the exam.
But remember, the most important thing to become an IPS officer is UPSC preparation , not the subject you choose.
Hope it helps !
To become an IPS officer, your school or graduation subject doesn’t matter much—any stream (Science, Commerce, Arts) is eligible for the UPSC Civil Services Exam.
The key is choosing an optional subject for Mains that suits your strengths, like Public Administration, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, or Law. Focus on General Studies, Current Affairs, English, and Essay writing, because preparation and consistency matter more than the subject itself.
Thanku
