Hello Soham, An eye care professional is an individual who offers services related tp the eyes or vision. It is any healthcare worker involved in eye care, and ranges from someone with a small amount of post secondary training to practitioners with doctoral level of education.

Optometrists are however not qualified enough to perform eye surgeries like opthalmologists. They however find out underlying eye conditions, provide lens and specs prescription and offer post and pre-operative care amongst others.

There is no MBBS course to become an Optometrist however there are BSc Optometry or B.Optom or Diploma courses offered throughout India.  So it may not be the same as what yoi are mentioning as a medical doctor.

An optometrist is an eye doctor who has earned the Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree.

As an optometrist you'll examine patients' eyes, give advice on visual problems and prescribe and fit spectacles or contact lenses when needed. You'll be trained to recognise eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataract, as well as general health conditions such as diabetes.

While an ophthalmologist is a medical doctor!!!!
