Hi,

First this is definitely not the correct way to choose a branch. Try and understand what is involved in studying. Check the curriculum of both branches in a few universities to understand this. See where your interests lie. You could also talk to any seniors, friends who are doing their engineering in this. Decide then as this will form the base for your career and future. You should first relate to it and like it to study and score well.

Having said that, both EE or EC are good branches. Placements are plenty for both branches. However as I see placements in core related areas are few unless you count the PSUs. While every institute says they have placements, the fact is they are mostly CS and IT sector related even for other branches. However PSUs do recruit a plenty from these branches as do the manufacturing industries.

The fact still remains that any placement will depend upon your performance in your degree and interviews.

As for placements  they will be in PSUs, banks, IT sector etc. You could apply for ESE also to get into the civil services on the basis of your engg degree; defence is another area to look at. You could opt for research.

Almost 60 % of the syllabus is same for ECE and EE,but the core subjects are different.

Main Difference

EEE: In EEE, students have to study Electrical as well as Electronics. It is the study and application of electrical systems for use in different environments and contains basic electronic courses and more power system.

ECE : Here, aspirants deal with Electronics with some part of communication. The subject uses the scientific knowledge of the behaviour and effects of electrons to develop devices, systems, or equipment that uses electricity as part of its driving force. Also it contains basics on electrical machines and more on integrated circuits and communication systems

Government Jobs:

Almost every PSU recruit through GATE examination. If you see vacancies for EEE and ECE,EEE have more vacancies and the number of students appearing GATE is less than ECE. So EEE people has edge here.

Private Jobs:

Generally,Software companies prefer ECE over EEE.

My suggestion:

If u want a government job,you should go for EEE.You really need to work very hard if you are from ECE background.
