IAS examinations can be divided into three parts:-

  • IAS preliminary : This is the first stage of the tests consisting of two papers and a total of 400 marks. These are objective in nature and an aspirant should score a minimum of 33% in paper-II (CSAT) in order to qualify for the next round.
  • IAS main: This is the second stage and consists of 9 papers. 2 of these are languages (One English and one aspirant's choice) papers and are of qualification nature. The remaining 7 are of merit nature and consist of both subjective and objective questions. The total score of the aspirant in papers and interview rounds is used during ranking process.
  • IAS Personality : This is the final stage and consists of a 275 marks interview. It consists of a psychometric test, an assessment test and a personal interview. The score in this interview and previous test is used to declare the final results.

Hope this information helped you.

Good luck!
