If your goal is to get placed after four years of college,  you can without a doubt join Sastra since it is very well known among the employers and nearly about 30 years old compared to IIIT which is just 10 years old.

Considering the syllabus for mechanical engineering, the syllabus in Sastra is what one would call a very conventional and proper mechanical course syllabus. But in IIIT, since the collge specializes in design, a lot of design courses and cross stream courses will be there as a part of the course. But it is not suitable for taking Gate  exams as it requires conventional syllabus.
