Last year I appeared on JEE ADVANCED ,2018.To appear in JEE ADVANCED you have to upload all your documents before the last date. Only,after that you will recieve a virtual admit card through which you can appear in the exam ,you will get the real admit card on your centre only.So,yes it is compulsary.
