Is it compulsory to have that Journalism's degree or Mass Com's tag to be an audio-visual journalist or a TV news anchor?

A good journalism degree never hurts: even better just a good solid education. But journalism's biggest degree is integrity, passion and curiosity about the world around us! Can't be taught in J school!!

Fancy that! Was it Mr. Sardesai who actually enlightened me regarding my enquiry! I'm so very bemused n' a bit enthralled.
May I acknowledge my solemn thankfulness to Mr. Peri too. And, indeed, thanks a lot Mr. Sardesai; it's almost like interrogating Mr. Hawking what Cosmology is all 'bout! Apropos, thanks loads Sachin!
But I'd further be ceaselessly grateful if I am told if a Major degree in Journalism/Mass Com. is what TV news channels' recruiters 'only' seek for. Or is it the other way round? viz., a graduate in Economics from DU / BHU with a British Council certificate [ an able n' fiercely contentious speaker, let's say!] with 'no' field experience [as he/she isn't taught in a J school; but shall I put, possesses an air of gloss]. Now, what's his/her path henceforth? Please do enlighten me, for Heaven's sake, if you'll pardon my expression!

Harshdeep, in my experience, while we did take trainee journalists from journalism schools, it never was a limiting factor. Having said that, journalism schools groom you on many a traits needed to be a good journalist and some get you an entry into some media organizations. In fact, much of our recruitments happened based on the interest, the inquisitiveness, knowledge, flair for writing etc from beyond journalism schools. Our research desks are manned by people from beyond journalism schools. Any journalist, any where on any platform needs the same and it isn't much different for visual medium. If you were to have a major degree in economics etc. and want to be a journalist, it works as long as you have the traits I mentioned. And it may work better if you wish to use your knowledge and be a journalist in that chosen field. I do hope I have answered you more precisely and hope you don't need to look to heaven to get them answered..
