Hi Posh! actually, it is your centre of examination that decides your zone for JEE ADVANCE and your domicile decides your home state quota for JEE Mains. In Jee mains, your centre has no role for your "Home state quota ". I myself had my domicile of Rajasthan and it was my "home state" as i appeared for my 12th class there, but i had given Jee Advance in Siliguri,West Bengal, resulting in IIT GUWAHATI ZONE.

Hi,

You have to mention the state from where you are sitting for/ passed your qualifying examination i.e. class 12th board examination. If you sat for improvement in some other state, then you have to mention the state in which you originally sat for 12th board examination.

NITs have a 50% quota for home state students and 50% for outsiders. For this, you have to understand the difference between state quota and domicile. Suppose you are a domicile of state 'A' but are doing 11th and 12th from state 'B'. In this case, your home state NIT would be the one in state 'B', although you can appear for entrance examinations of state engineering colleges of state 'A'.

Also yes, you have to apply for the same state and zone in both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Hi Posh,In JEE Mains is concerned, your home state would be the state you are doing your class 12th from (your domicile state may or may not be the same). As far as JEE Advanced is concerned, you will be given freedom to choose one among the seven IIT zones. Also, you can give preference for five exam centres in the zone of your choice.I have to tried to explain in plain words. Hope it is clear now. Thanks
