For hons subjects, follow the class lectures in your college, however boring or interesting they might seem…… your ears will at least help you to be updated with the lessons… and back home when you’ll sit down to study, your brain will need much less time and effort to prepare them.

Whatever you might learn on that day, make it a thumb-rule to solve all related questions from that topic, either from your book, or CU question-papers….. and when you’re stuck, ask your college/tuition professors. (It involves lots and lots of hard work indeed…. but ain’t it better to work hard from the beginning in a regular manner….. when the pressure is less… so that you don’t have to blame yourself before your finals for being lazy!!)

This will give you a strong preparation from day-1, so you won’t need to freak out at the end of the year, as you have already made yourself face several types of problems from the beginning… and by the time you reach your finals, you’ll also find yourself having solved almost the maximum of CU question papers, which is something mandatory as in the “D-DAY” you might find common questions (HURRAH!!)… and with no doubts your concepts will be clear and strong.

The pressure of the hons subjects is too huge to allow you to worry about your pass subjects. So here is a simple way to ensure you get good marks in your general subjects as well.

1.       Attending classes is very important.(unfortunately in most colleges neither students are very energetic to attend classes nor Profs.) Note everything that they say in between classes. Study those.

2.      CU is very Unpredictable like cricket match. It can gift You utter surprise. Prepare for those questions also that is not coming for long time.

3.      Supplies are so common in CU. Students at least got a supply once in their 3–4 years of study. . If you are not good in any subject, study it suggestive way. Covering past 5 years question papers is enough. Be very smartly selective.

4.      People mainly say to attend every certain questions in examination. No! Don't do it. Write all your known one perfectly and cleanly. You can't get good marks answering all (if you are not copying, instead it's hard to answer all) because questions are very likely to be lenghty. So far the questions are concerned, CU always provides questions that needs real thinking. They never provides your preplanned question. No arranged dishes on plate will be provided but given you the recipe, ingredients and tell you to cook it yourself.If you can try not to include any unnecessary stuff, Good impression of Examiners can reward you good marks. Yes! Don't try to examine examiner's patience.

5.      Hand writing should be cleaned and well arranged. If not good at least try to write clean and maintain proper gap. Ty to use Blue ink, avoid Black.

6.      If you have copied from someone your marks can fall. Be careful when you are getting copied or copying. We may see in Bollywood movies teachers are so dumb. But this theory is not applied to CU.Examiners are very smart in respect to checking. Try not to write very similar.

7.      Technical study is very important. Make a chart, study them for entire year.

8.     Try to maintain margin of gap both left and right side. You don't have to use scale, pencil or pen to make space at both side. Folding is enough. Because at the right side they put the Marks. If it becomes messy, no. Counting can be difficult as well. And could cause less no. 

9.      Group study is very important. Try to discuss problems with friends. It will help a lot. Sharing notes is important.

10.  If you are from those who start preparation from 2 or 3 months earlier. Go through 7 years questions, make own suggestion and own convenient and comfortable time table to study them. Don't follow single suggestion.

11.   And lastly be very confident about yourself. That's it.

If you want the short version, no it is not. Now, it is not easy to score if you do not study or just mug up instead of understanding the subjects in other universities as well. But Calcutta university has its faults there as well. One of the primary problems with CU's dearth of marks is the marking pattern. This is partly due to CU being stuck in a time bubble. But as times are progressing the scores are getting higher than it used to be but it is still miles behind the other prestigious universities in the country.
