It completely depends on your branch but I would recommend you to have one if you belong to CSE, CSIT branches . You need to have good knowledge of coding languages and skills in order to settle down in IT Companies. In this Covid situation, Max. companies are taking their placement exams online ,in such condition, you will need laptops . As long as you are in campus, You will be provided with labs and desktops to code and learn.

See if you are a BTech students then in the first year there will be courses on programming. Now as you know, the pandemic is going on, there are not that much scope to do the necessary coding in the computer lab of the college. Now to practice the coding  you will need a system. Nowadays, coding can also be done in smart phones, but as per my opinion its always better to have a PC. Not only for coding it would be helpful, but it will give you a better workspace for the assignment s and projects you will get. Also if you wish to study from the e-books, then the laptop will have a wider screen. So it will serve multiple purpose and obviously its a necessity. So if you can arrange money, then I would recommend you to get a laptop.
