for the perspective of placements mechanical engineering is no longer a good branches most of the mechanical engineers in very reputed institutes are not able to get half of the salary of the appears in other branches like information technology or computer science or electronics etc.

this is because the lower demand in mechanical engineering and due to availability of other subdomains of mechanical engineering like production engineering etc.

so if you are interested in mechanical engineering then try to specify your interest and go in a subdomain branch like production or industrial engineering.

It depends you,how interested are you in that particular branch.No branch is good and no brach is bad.You may not get placement in CSE too if you are not a good students.When it comes to placement in top colleges like IITs,even Mechanical Engineering students get placed in Investment Banks and Consulting firms.There are lot of companies that offer placement is mechanical so if you have interest and you can get good college then any branch can be good.
