Both the branches VLSI and communication both are emerging exponentially from last 10-15 years.

Both the branches are trending and we cannot say that which one is better then the other. Both has good scope and good packages for students pursuing their career in this.

if you are  good at mathematics then you should choose communication also VLSI needs mths but not as much as communication.

if you are interested in designing chips or interested in hardware then you should go for VLSI.

you should choose the one which you find interested as interest is what matters and only it will take you somewhere good.
