Dear Devendra,

A PhD is a degree based on research; it'll prepare you for research positions including academia. An MBA/PGDM is a degree designed to enhance your ability to function in the business world as a manager. Whereas the PhD is based on research, the MBA/PGDM is based on application. What you learn in an MBA/PGDM program is meant to be applied whereas what you learn in a PhD is meant to observe or describe. The MBA is also a more general degree, covering a wide scope of subjects with a wide variety of teachers. The PhD is very narrow, focusing on a niche subject generally with fewer teachers/supervisors. . A PhD is a degree based on research; it'll prepare you for research positions including academia. ... If you want to pursue your PhD then go for any masters degree from good govt. university,if you want to apply for PGDM then you can apply for Institue like FSM,BIMTECH,Asia-Pacific,IMI ..

Dear Devendra,

I would first advice you to plan your longer term career goals, and then align your career path.

If you are a graduate, and already thinking about a career as a researcher/academician/ teacher or a professor of Management studies, then you can simply do your masters in commerce/ business/psychology/sociology, economics from any government university and then followed by your PhD etc;

But if you plan to be a successful corporate in your near future, and want your grooming to be the best in terms of communications, personality, business etiquettes and want the best of corporate and industry exposure along with international exchange, then for sure take up PGDM as the coursework for you.

Hope this helps!

Doreen

Although MBAs will vehemently dismiss the need for Ph.Ds in a teaching Job, most professors in top Business Schools have a Ph.D. So if your goal is to be part of a prestigious institute like Harvard, Wharton or any other Ivy League Schools, doing a Ph.D after Executive or Full-time MBA  would be a good move.

One can pursue PhD after completing PGDM subject to meeting other criteria. Of course, you can. ... No you can not pursue PhD right after doing PGDM or PGPM course for that you must have MBA degree. After PGDM or PGPM you have to do MBA for a PhD.

Thanks,

Azim
