BPT  is a 4-year UG course. Candidates need to have attained the 10+2 qualification from a recognized educational board to get admission in this course. Physiotherapy can be considered a health profession which is concerned with maximization of mobility and quality of life by implementing clinical reasoning.Physical therapists have ample job prospects in Hospitals, Nursing homes, Residential homes, Rehabilitation centers, Private offices such as Private practices or Private clinics, etc. Additionally, a person with qualification in physiotherapy can work at Out-patient clinics, Community health care centers or Primary health care centers, Fitness centers or Health clubs, Occupational health centers, Special schools and Senior citizen centers, etc. Job prospects for physiotherapists are bright in various sports centers, teaching, working in foreign countries with companies, N.G.Os,. On an average, candidate can earn 3-8 lakhs per annum.

Dear Sagarika, It is an upcoming profession in healthcare. Essentially, the syllabus is vast and teaches you to treat patients without drugs, and since there are no adverse effects on the body through this treatment, most patients are more than willing to opt for it.

This field has a wide scope in future. There are changes planned at the policy level. A Bill has been submitted and hopefully the field should experience new developments in the near future. The Ministry of Health plans to set up a Central Health Council which should ensure that the practice is regulated. The UGC norms ensure that students are better skilled and trained. Physiotherapists are required in each department of a hospital, be it ICU or geriatrics and they can also choose to work independently or be part of a multidisciplinary team. You can enjoy flexible working hours as a consultant, choosing the number of hours you work everyday. 

In India, the starting salary ranges from Rs. 5,000 to Rs.30,000 per month. Generally, private hospitals provide remuneration ranging between Rs. 5,000 to Rs.15,000 per month for a fresher.

In a government hospital like AIIMS, you begin as a Junior Physiotherapist and earn approximately Rs. 30,000 per month.The progression in designations is Physiotherapist followed by Senior Physiotherapist earning about Rs. 45,000 per month, followed by Superintendent earning about Rs.60,000-70,000 per month and then Chief Physiotherapist earning about Rs.80,000 per month. Jobs in a government hospital are difficult to get so you might have to explore other options before you land up here.
