hello gaurav..

GATE is definietly different from JEE. JEE is an engineerin g entrance exam that is given by almost every PCM student which tests your 11th and 12th skills but G ATE is an Engineering Aptitude exam where the all the examinees are engineers.

JEE is an exam to be cleared for getting bachelors degree and GATE is for getting Masters degree.

But difficulty level of both the exams are high.

Respected sir,

Though there were few fundamental difference in my preparation of JEE and GATE.

  1. I was more focused and self motivated during GATE. A major reason being the placements in my college. JEE was something I gave more because my parents wanted me to appear for.
  2. JEE preparation I started just a year before the exam. GATE I was concentrating on the required subjects during my regular course. Which meant I might have started a year and half before my first attempt and two and half years for my second attempt

Hello,

Yes it is totally different.JEE MAINS is conducted every year to give admission into undergraduate courses while GATE is conducted every year to give admission into postgraduate programmes.

You can apply for GATE only in your last year of btech course.

Good luck.

Dear Gaurav

Both examination pattern and syllabus for Gate and JEE are very different. While in JEE a student is asked fundamental questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics that's not the case with GATE.

In Gate examination not only fundamental knowledge of Engineering is tested but there is a sepearte part for aptiude as well. Questions are branch specific, for instance if you are an ECE students you will need to prepare all the subjects you studied through out the course of your Engineering like

Signals and Systems

Digital Communication

Networ Analysis

Electromagnetic Theory

Antenna and Wave Propagation

Micro-Waves

Control Systems

Communication and Transmission Lines

Electronic Devices and Circuits

Mathematics

and a bunch others.

After clearing the GATE cut-off you will be eligible to seek admission in P.G. programms offered by various IITS and other institutes throughout India.

All the best.

Jee main syllabus focuses on all basics of chemistry, physics and maths. Whereas (excluding maths) Gate is different for different branches say mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, computer engineering, etc. Both are completely different.
