If you are in any of the IIT then  you can go for direct admission.Also after GATE ,there are several IITs which offer top rankers for direct admission.

So you have two choice if you belong to any IITs then you can get recommendation from your proffessor and pursue m.tech without any entrance and if you are not from IIt then you have to appear for GATE.
