As far as I know, income certificate is mostly not concerned with the OPEN category students. Income certificate is mostly asked from the students who come under the EWS category to prove their income is below 8 Lakhs to avail the admission under that category. However, I suggest you to keep a copy with you as there may be chances that your college may ask you for it. An ITR also works I guess
