There are three ways to find the answer. They are as follows

  • Count the numbers physically

  • Use the equation

\begin{aligned}

& 13^2 - 12^2 - 1 = 24

\end{aligned}

  • Since 12 and 13 are consecutive numbers, you can use the following equation

\begin{aligned}

& 2 \times 12 = 24

\end{aligned}
