Yes you can appear for only 1 subject under improvement admission. The maximum number of subjects you can appear for are 4 and minimum is 1 the only requirement is you have to be passed in all the subjects in boards. However you can also give improvement through cbse in one subject if you want to increase your percentage.

Thank you very much, But I was seeking improvement in the same academic year in which I've passed 12th, and I've also heard about the transfer of credits through cbse to NIOS after giving on demand examination, Is it possible to do so?
