Sri R. L. Jalappa, a visionary, social worker, and educationist, founded R. L. Jalappa Institute of Technology (RLJIT) in 2001 in Doddballapur, Bangalore Rural District. RLJIT is a branch of the Sri Devaraj Urs Educational Trust (SDUET), which was created in Kolar in 1986 to serve the rural and disadvantaged classes. It is accredited by AICTE in New Delhi and associated with VTU in Belgaum.
