Hi,
Your questions appears to be incomplete. Your answer can be answered in two ways. The JEE Mains exam is held two times in a year. So, it is not necessary that candidates need to attend both the attempts. If you have scored good in one, there is no need to give again. Secondly, there are two papers in JEE Mains. So, the first paper is for the candidates who need to pursue the Engineering courses and various specializations and the second paper is for candidates who are interested to pursue the Architecture and Planning course. You need to attempt only one there too.

No, it is not mandatory to appear for paper 1, paper 2 and paper 3. JEE main paper 1 is for admission in to B.Tech, JEE Main paper 2 is for admission in to B.Arch and JEE Main paper 3 is for admission in to B.Plan. If you are only an Engineering aspirant then you can appear for JEE Main paper 1 only. But if you are also interested in B.Arch and B.Plan then you have to appear for paper 2 and paper 3 as well.
