Percentile is the percentage of number of people who scored less than you.

Eg there are 500 students who are appearing for exam, 49 student get 400 + marks you get 400 and rest 450 student score less than 400 marks so you score more than 450 students . therefore you score more than 90% percent student so your percentile will be 90%.
