Three pairs in decreasing order, first two pairs like XY in XYZ are shifting to next as last pair and earlier alphabet is being added to this, like XYZ-XY and we add the alphabeti that comes before X,hence WXY.

Following the series of alphabets, XYZ, WXY, VWX the next sets of alphabets should be UVW, TUV and so on.  If you look carefully, you'll see that the first alphabet of the first set, is the second element of the second set of alphabets , and the second element of the first set is the third element of the second set.
