National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc. Its a project funded by MHRD, Govt. Of India. It offers various courses on various topics, each having different durations. There are 4 week courses, 8 week courses and 12 week courses available on topics falling in categories like Agriculture and Architectures, Civil and Aerospace Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical And Computer Science Engineering and all other Departments of IITs. Its absolutely free online course for all and there is an optional Certification exam against a nominal fee if you want a certificate (issued by NPTEL). You just need to register yourself and get enrolled for the course. Also you can access those video lectures whenever you want to. There is no time boundation ( provided you do not apply for certification exam because you would have to complete assignments before their due date). Nevertheless the content is available even after the course ends. I have enrolled myself for various courses just for learning purpose.
