Nitrogen is the first member in Group 15 (V - A) of the periodic table.

It is not a very active element. It combines with relatively few other elements at room temperature.

Nitrogen combines with metals to form nitrides.

In the alkali metals, only lithium reacts with nitrogen, and it forms a nitride and this is called lithium nitride.
