On which parameters NIRF ranking on colleges or university based on? Is it also includes about placements?

Hello Vishnu,

NIRF score is a reflection of where the institution is standing as compared to other institutions in a similar category. Since this ranking is done by using several parameters which further has been assigned different weightage depending upon the type of institution which means this ranking contains complete information about any institution within its score.

Based on different parameters these rankings lay emphasis on :

  • the perception of the institution.
  • A good emphasis on the representation of women.
  • effectiveness of the core teaching/learning.
  • The core activities encouraged apart from learning and studies.
  • The career of the students after graduating

Parameters on which NIRF ranking is done are as follows:

1. Teaching, Learning & Resources: (Ranking Weightage =0.30, 100 Marks)

  • Student Strength including Doctoral Students: 20 Marks
  • Faculty-student ratio with emphasis on permanent faculty: 30 Marks
  • Combined metric for Faculty with PhD (or equivalent) and Experience: 20 Marks
  • Total Budget and Its Utilisation: 30 Marks

2. Research and Professional Practice: (Ranking Weightage =0.30, 100 Marks)

  • Combined metric for Publications: 30 Marks
  • Combined metric for Quality of Publications: 40 Marks
  • IPR and Patents: Filed, Published, Granted and Licensed: 15 Marks
  • The footprint of Projects, Professional Practice and Executive Development Programs: 15 Marks

3. Graduation Outcomes: (Ranking Weightage =0.20, 100 Marks )

  • Combined % for Placement, Higher Studies, and Entrepreneurship: 40 Marks
  • Metric for University Examinations: 15 Marks
  • Median Salary: 20 Marks
  • Metric for Graduating Students Admitted Into Top Universities: 15 Marks
  • Metric for Number of PhD Students Graduated: 10 Marks

4. Outreach and Inclusivity: (Ranking Weightage =0.10, 100 Marks)

  • Percentage Students from other states/countries: 30 Marks
  • Percentage of Women: 25 Marks
  • Economically and Socially Challenged Students: 25 Marks
  • Facilities for Physically Challenged Students: 20 Marks

5. Perception: (Ranking Weightage =0.10, 100 Marks)

  • Peer Perception: Employers and Research Investors: 25 Marks
  • Peer Perception: Academics: 25 Marks
  • Public Perception: 25 Marks
  • Competitiveness: 25 Marks
