Other than CATwhat basic things should we prepare before hand? I mean how to make CV strong? Should I take some certificate courses and all?

The final selection in a B School constitutes of CAT Score, Academic scores, Work experience, Professional qualifications(like CA),  academic and gender diversity, GD/Group Activities, Personal Interviews and writing ability tests. Most of the good B School have all or some of these components.

The CV is a part during the interview process for majority of B Schools. It gives an idea of your overall performance. It is preferred(not compulsory) to have certificates of MBA related courses like Google Adwords, In bound marketing etc in marketing, Six sigma etc in Operations and CFA and others in Finance.

You should also participate in various events during your undergraduate course which shows your exposure to management activities. You can also opt for social service and present certificates for the same. You can also participate in workshops and competitions and try to win them.

However these should be done without disturbing your CAT Exam preparation. These activities shows that you are serious for a management course and have gained some experience. You can be preferred over a candidate who does not have done all these during your final interviews.

All the best!

Since I am from a small town, and a govt. college, we don't get such opportunities here. But I am thinking to take certificate course through IGNOU or NPTEL. I found a course Soft Skills for Business Negotiations and Marketing Strategies in NPTEL. Is it beneficial?

Yes these will be good for your CV. I too come from the same background. You can also participate in your college annual festivals etc and can work for local NGOs for some events to enhance your CV.

I think 1-2 such degrees are sufficient, isn't it?

It totally depend on you how much you want to pursue. There is no specific number, it's just that you need a have a full one page CV better than an average aspirant. These will just give an indication that you have an interest in Management. Do as per your interest without hampering your main preparation.
