There are 2 types of patterns followed by colleges and universities. One of them is a semester system an the other is yearly exams. In semester system, there are two exams in one year and the studies of all the semesters are different. The fees is also charges semester wise in some colleges/universities.

This means that one academic year has been divided into two halves.
