The stomach secretes pepsin, gastric lipase and rennin(primarily in newborns).
Pepsin is the primary enzyme secreted by the stomach. It helps in the digestion of proteins. It breaks down complex and large protein molecules into smaller peptides and proteoses. It is secreted by the chief cells as pepsinogen(inactive pepsin) which is later on converted to active pepsin because of the HCl present in the stomach.
Gastric lipase is also secreted by the stomach but in very small amounts. It initiates the breakdown of lipids into monoglycerides and diglycerides.
Rennin is produced by the stomach of babies and infants. It is the protein digesting enzyme in newborns. It is secreted as pro-rennin and is later converted into rennin. It helps in coagulating and digesting milk proteins, particularly casein.
