Rashtriya Military schools were established as King George's Royal Indian Military schools . In 1954, the school became a member of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) and continues to be an active member till date. The school has several of its alumni occupying high positions in the Armed Forces and in other sectors doing stellar service to the motherland.

The schools are category ‘A’ establishments of the Army and are administered by the Directorate General of Military Training. The Central Governing Council(CGC), headed by the Defense Secretary, Ministry of Defense is the apex body for these schools. Rashtriya Military School is a Boys-school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is managed by Ministry Of Defense.

To join, the students have to pass the exam and an interview to get admission in Rashtriya Military School Medical Test is also done ,Students who pass the interview are required to pass the medical test.
