Hey aspirant,

See, there is a shortage of serious research astronomers in the country. If you are interested in space science then it's a very great thing that you want to doing something different. However, there are limited institutions that do research in astronomy. All you should try to get your degree under a well - recognised astromer and you will have a reasonable chance of success.

In india, there are several institutions including IIA where several astronomers are employed.

Other opportunities are in the government institutions like DRDO AND ISRO. These graduates can also get a  job at NASA .

Here , i mention you some job roles in space science :

Astronaut

Research scientist

Astronomer

University faculty

I hope this will be helpful.

Good luck!!
