Hello Nikhil,to your concern, both the option are good enough but  i would not suggest you not to drop a year because that would be such a waste of talent. Also, you must have taken mathematics as a subject in class 12th board exams for NDA.For other jobs class 10 maths is required but that too for low post. So,you should pursue your degree.

Thanks for connecting.Team Careers360.

Hello Nikhil!!

It's good to see that young people are interested in defence sector. But before planning to do so one must keep few things  mind. Let first see the list of exams which you need to clear before going to the defence services.

1. NDA Exam - The NDA is one of the best exams an individual could  take if he/she wants a future in defence. NDA exam is only for 12th pass students. One has to first  clear the written examination, then followed by SSB interview and finally mesical. After completing these 3 steps successfully you can join the NDA. Remember in NDA one will study 3 years of B. Sc course and after completing 3 years one will be sent to any of the 3 services that is the Army, Navy and Air force. In there respective services an individual would go for 1 year of basic training before commissioning as an officer.

2. NA Exam - The Naval Academy exam is conducted along with NDA exam. One will either choose to give the NDA/NA exam. The procedure is same as that of NDA. First,  one has to clear written exam, followed by SSB and medical.

3. 10+2 B. Tech entry - One can join the Indian Navy through this entry also. This is a non UPSC entry so no written will be conducted . Ones entry will be on the basis of JEE Mains rank. If you are selected then you would get a call for SSB followed by medical.

4. TES -  Technical Entry Scheme is for joining the Army as an engineer. One would be joining CTWs ( cader training wings) for 4 years and then 1 year at IMA before getting commissioned as an officer. After TES notification is released  one has to apply for. If selected then one would be called for SSB and medical.

Note : To join Airforce after 12th one has to go through NDA as airforce doesn't conduct any other entry schemes.

The TES and 10+2 B.Tech entry schemes are only for science students.

Now, according to me it is a risky decision because you don't know that whether you would get selected or not. But if you are willing to go ahead with this then go for it. In the meantime you should prepare yourself for the SSB interview. You can do so in the following ways -

1. Be fit. Exercise daily

2. Get a medical check up of your body

3. Read all the current affairs

4. Generate OLQs ( Officer like qualities ) within yourself.

I have listed down some important websites you can go through -

I hope that I have cleared your doubts. If you have any other queries please feel free to contact us. I wish you all the best for your career in defence services.

Good luck !!
