In Engineering core branches refer to Civil, Electrical and Mechanical because 90% of the engineering problems can be solved by these field engineers. That's why in government jobs also core stream engineers are preferred. If you belong to Core stream then in future you have good chances to work with reputed Indian organizations like NTPC, BHEL, BEL, GAIL, ONGC, etc.
