At this point of time you have some good options--1) prepare for ldce exam but remember it comes very rare so get prepare in advance so that you don't miss your ultimate opportunity.

2) je with 2 or 3 years experience can apply to some other organisations where je with experience is needed...it's really a good opportunity..like in IIT lab assistant, NIT lab .assistant, and many govt organisations...just go through job sites..you"ll surely find experience based jobs.

3) prepare for ies, state psc, upsc ssc

Now stay calm your story is not going to end in frustration..having hope is more important ..and yes rlys has rule to conduct ldce exam in 2 years time . But it never follow rule..and so employees get frustrated. One thing you can do place and rti asking rly that when the ldce exam will be taken and why not it is conducted in every 2 years rule. That pressurise the rly ministry to pay attention to employees satisfaction...

And yes if these all don't work for you..just try to make money through various sources so you"ll lead a happiest life..all the best.

You are fortunate for getting a job in Govt sector where is least accountability for deliverables. You have lost 9 years for not preparing for ICWA course. Cost Engineer has a great value. You can complete within a couple of years if you work hard .

As you have 9 years of work-experience in the Indian Railways sector. It’s better for you to go for an executive MBA, as placements after normal 2 years MBA will not be easy considering your 9 years experience. So, executive MBA is the best choice. Secondly, you can give GMAT and try MBA abroad as they prefer experienced candidates. So, prepare well and try to ace an executive MBA degree from IIMABC or IIFT. Best wishes!

I understand your concern and would advice you to stay calm and concentrate on the next thing in life.

GATE is out of question at this point of time. You should go for executive MBA or e-PGP courses that are offered by various institutes like IIMs, SP-jain, XLRI. You can also look for full time MBA if you have the bandwidth of taking out almost two years from life. ISB hyderabad and GLIM, chennai will provide full time MBA in one year only, so you can look into this option.

I understand that no promotion is a really frustrating thing. However with such a huge work experience an MBA would really not be the rught thing for you. However, you can look at colleges like ISB for full time MBA.

I suggest you look at Executive MBA. It is done by professionals have more than 8-9 years of experience and is a one year course. It is offered by all premier B Schools in India including the top 6 IIMs. Maybe you can start preparing for CAT next year and attemot CAT 2019. Once you get a good percentile you may even join IIM Ahmedabad for executive Program. Every college has a placement committee for the EPGP program also. So, you shall get placed in a really goos company at the end of the year where you can contribute more efficiently and will be respected for the job you do.

Doing a nornal MBA is not advisable as you have more than 9 years of work exp. I would suggest you to do Executive MBA offered by top premiere institutions Like IIM-A,B,C,L,K,ISB.

Getting into these will help you boost your career.

Giving GATE is definitely option but it requires dedication and effort to be putted up on it.

Depending on choice of interest whether you need to stick to your field, or leave it I would suggest you to take decision. Both requires effort .

Don't worry, you have a good bunch of experience of 9 years in railways which can help you in diverting your career in operations and supply chain management. With this rich experience, you can apply for an executive MBA abroad or in India too. You'll have to appear for the GMAT for a global MBA.

Life after GATE also would be fairly the same as in your role would be technical in nature. I would advice you to do an executive MBA from a leading business school (preferably the old IIMs, ISB, etc.). MBA is seen as a degree which fast forwards the career of people,

You are already very experienced and you can decide what do you want to do.Both GATE and CAT have very different career prospectives and hence deciding what do you want to do while following your passion shouldn't be difficult.Choose well.

Did you really want to work in Railways? Was it your dream? Ask yourself what you always wanted to do in life. Usually, we have the answers to the questions we ask from others. So, one more time, what YOU want to do?

As long as the studies are concerned, you can pursue a distance MBA degree along with your railway job. Not really sure if a regular MBA program would fit into your current life cycle. So, distance MBA is a decent option for you at this point in time.

Since I heard that most of the people will select the option either M.B.A or M.Tech for the promotion point of view.  If you are wishing to do the M.tech from the elite institutes of India i.e either IIT / NIT then in such cases yaah you need to clear the GATE examination. And I think the current position which you are in that the M.Tech option will be faar better than M.B.A. So you should definitely look forward the option M.Tech that will be faar better.

First of all, I can understand and feel the pain you are going through, as I am an Engineer too.

You have 2 options forward,

If you want to go for specialization in your own field, then GATE is the way forward. If you work hard for GATE and achieve a good score then you can apply for PSUs which have much better working environment, salaries, benefits, future scope, and Promotions as well. You can even join some good MNCs providing you have a good workex and a good GATE score under your belt.

On the other hand we have Cat,GMAT and management exams for another approach. Since you have good enough workex under the belt, you can apply for PGP-Executive programs of IIMs.

The minimum age to join for PGP-Ex at an IIM is 27 (there is no upper limit) With good past profile and atleast 5 years or workex.

Mba/PGP-ex is not just a degree it holistically develops you and you can learn some of the best management practices from some of the best managers,leaders and Entrepreneurs of the country. The journey forward is upto you and not dependent on others once you do a PGP-EX course. You can choose whatever you wish to be and where you wish to be and the process and the career prospect is clear after this incubation period of 1 year.

So the path ahead is difficult on both the choices, you have to get out of the comfort zone and start working for either Gate or Cat. But the final choice is yours which one you want to go for. If you want to go for specialization and want to go deeper into your own field Gate can be a very reasonable option, but if you see yourself somewhere at a managing position at a company or leading a team or creating something of your own as an entrepreneur than PGP-Ex is the way forward.

Well, that's sad to know.

Well it would be difficult to suggest anything at this stage. If you have the patience go for GATE and hone your technical skills. This will again land you to a government job though at a better position.

And if you are really passionate about MBA , go about it .What I see around me is people of your age do join IIMs however, they have to struggle in getting a good shortlist at the time of placement. This is the clear picture that I wished to portray in front of you. Also there's an option of joining the Executive program in IIMs. Apply for that too.
