You have not mentioned the exam that you gave in which you scored 172 marks.

Belonging to the general category gives you a great disadvantage because the cut-offs for admissions into good government colleges are extremely high and they only keep increasing every year.

Your marks do not matter as much as your rank matters in an exam because the admissions are given based on yhe ranks obtained by the students.
