Congratulations to your performance! 78.4% is not really bad marks to study further. You mentioned that you can't do engineering from a private college. So I would suggest you to study between physics chemistry or maths. Take any of this as your honours subject. Study on that. Or you can study Geology which is also very good subject to study, if you have interest in it. You can study statistics also. Which has very vast career options.

Polytechnic is great. Yes if you really want to get this as you subject then go for it. Don't fear.
