Duplicate certificate is given as a backup option in time of emergency.But, apply for the original marksheet too.You will get the original marksheet in a week.If you are planning to apply for any job or course then inform them in advance regarding this.So it wont create any problem.

Hope you are doing well coming to your question always original certificates is only valid for verification.

If you have lost then try to get it , copy of application form of lost certificate or application for getting certificate again with photocopy may be treated as valid depending on people at verification place and rule of exam.
