It is never late to apply for a new caste certificate. However, it takes in general, 30-35 days to get the caste certificate from the office. Meanwhile, if your verification is successful, you can download the caste certificate from the portal itself, using the application number provided to you during the procedure of applying, and use it during the counselling.

Thus, if your counselling is not in process right now, you can go for applying for the caste certificate. To apply for the caste certificate online, you need to visit your state's Official Backward Class Welfare Department portal.
