Dear Candidate , Yes, if after the CBSE improvement exam you score 75 % or more in Class 12 , then you will be eligible for JoSAA counselling for IITs in 2026 , provided you also : - Qualify JEE Advanced ( IIT admissions are based on JEE Advanced , not JEE Main alone ) , and -Meet all other criteria set by JoSAA and IITs for that year .
Hello Pranav,
Yes, if you appear for the CBSE improvement exam in 2026 and score 75% or more aggregate marks , then you will be eligible for JoSAA counselling for admission to IITs in that year, provided you also qualify JEE Advanced .
Here are the key eligibility rules for IIT admissions via JoSAA:
You must qualify JEE Advanced in the same year you seek admission.
You must have either:
Scored at least 75% aggregate marks in your Class 12 board exam (or 65% for SC/ST), or
Be in the top 20 percentile of your respective board.
Since you scored 71% in 2025, you're currently not eligible under the 75% rule. But by appearing for the CBSE improvement exam in 2026 and achieving 75% or more , you will become eligible. CBSE improvement marks are valid for JEE Advanced eligibility.
Important points to note :
Improvement exams should be in the same subjects you appeared for earlier.
You can use the improved score for eligibility but not to reattempt JEE Advanced unless you're within your two-attempt limit.
So yes, after improvement , if your marks cross 75%, you will be eligible for JoSAA counselling and IIT admission (subject to JEE Advanced qualification).
