Well, I would say a mix of it... Like for example if you have an enormous interest in Maths(lets say) then you can buy a new Book, as it will give you a good inner feeling for exploring and loving the book yourself, and for rest you can purchase old books, as will cost less, as well as you will get extra important points, questions etc... marked by the seniors/previous book carrier So double benefit for you...
