After the independence of India from the British rule, the caste system came into existence and the the highest castes were considered as Brahmins, followed by the Kshatriya, Vasiyas, and the lowest caste was named as shudras.

The Indian constitution also provides reservation to the the lower castes and the the non creamy layer in matters of job, admissions, and priority over others in various fields.
