Cochin University of Science and Technology is a state government university.The college was established in the year 1971 and was originally known as University of Cochin and later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology. It is located in Kochi in the state of kerala.CUSAT particularly emphasizes on postgraduate studies and research in the fields of applied science ,technolgy,industry and commerces.

The University has been re-accredited by NAAC with A Grade and is also recognized by UGC. Additionally, more than 70% of departments of CUSAT Kochi have won research projects that have been awarded by national agencies like ICMR, DRDO, DAE, and ISRO. It is the only university that has been publishing a high-quality newsletter in English for the past 20 years highlighting all important university activities. The Cochin University of Science and Technology also provides recognition to several well-established premier research institutions in the country and the Southern Naval Command of Indian Navy.
