The difference in the ranks this year has come due to the two attempts that were provided with the best of two criteria.

So suppose 12 lakh students appeared for first attempt and the same number appeared for the second attempt, then this year a rank was prepared for 24 lakh students unlike previous year when there were only 12 lakh ranks.
