The Constitution of India provides us with three types of Emergencies-

  1. National Emergency
  2. Financial Emergency
  3. State Emergency (President's Rule)- When the State Government fails to perform its duty, then the President can impose their rule.
  • It is for the period of 6 months but later extended
  • It should be passed in both houses by a simple majority
  • The president can revoke the President's rule at any time
  • It imposed several times in different states 
  • It is also called a "Constitutional Emergency"
