Different law colleges accept marks from different examinations as their admission criteria. So, if you have not given CLAT examination, you can give other law entrance examinations such as LSAT and take admission in colleges which accept it's marks for admission.

Yes clat is basic for law. A lot of colleges go with this prerequisite that you should attemp clat for applying and also certain percentage is required from your side in the clat exam. It is important to be updated with the basic knowledge of all the subjects.

You can join a Law school without attempting CLAT too. CLAT is still one of the important entrances for law admissions as it given admission in a few top law schools  of the country.

CLAT is a common entrance test for admission in all and only the National Law Universities in India (NLUs) in the course of 5 year integrated lae courses which combine your undergraduate and law degree.

NLU, Delhi has its own entrance test called AILET

All the other colleges and Universities have their own entrances or procedure for admissions. Some examples are-

GLC Mumbai, ILS Pune, Symbiosis Law School, Jindal Global Law school, IP University Delhi Banaras Hindu University, Panjab University, Amity University etc.

Also, CLAT does not offer admission to any 3 year law courses. There are separate entrance tests like DU LLB, PU LLB, MHCET, BHU LLb, LSAT, SLAT etc.

So you can take admission in all good colleges which are not NLUs for the 5 year law degree and all good 3 year law colleges without attempting CLAT.
