We hope we will solve your query.       Metallurgy engineering have very vast scope you can go to research, job in psu, teaching line, abroad studies.  Some students who are not interested in it they change their field from metallurgy to management field by getting campus placement in management field or After doing MBA.                                                      Metallurgy engineering have many jobs in psu companies that are Coal India limited,  ISRO, DRDO, GAIL etc.  PSU provide very good package.  You will get 66000 in hand salary and other incentive also like HRA, DRA, etc.                                                                                             Metallurgy engineers also work in thermal power plants . There are many private companies who higher Metallurgy engineers and pay good salary if you are from IIT,  NIT.       The starting salary in private sector is less but in private sector the growth is more and pay will be more after experience of 4-5 year.  Where as in public sector the starting pay is more but the growth is steady. You salary after 4-5 years will be less than private sector employee. Candidates with B. Tech and M. Tech degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from IITs can be hired by Top Metal Manufacturing companies, Electrical companies, R & D Labs, Construction companies, Fabrication units, Metal extraction units and Engineering workshops
Conducting research and developmentDeveloping processing plantsSupervise production processesAssuring the quality of metal productsWriting for technical magazines and trade associations

They may also supervise the work of metallographers, highly trained technologists, and other assistants in conducting tests. The average salary of a Bachelor degree holder from IIT is between Rs. 7.5  8 lakhs per annum. The salary will increase with experience.
