Hello Nikhil,

Domicile plays a very important role in deciding your admission to different types of colleges and universities in India.

Broadly, there are three types of colleges, Government Colleges, Deemed Universities, and Private Colleges. I would now briefly describe how Domicile affects the admission process in all the above-described categories.

Government Colleges -

In Govt. colleges 50 percent of the counseling is conducted under All India Quota where there is no significance of Domicile and 50% is conducted by the state govt. where domicile counts for 100% of the seats.

Deemed Universities -

100% of the counseling in Deemed Universities is conducted under All India Quota, that is why there is no need of Domicile in it but as the fee structure of these universities is quite high, the candidates having lower marks also get a chance to procure a seat in it.

Private Colleges -

In Pvt Colleges, the whole counseling is conducted by the State in which the college is situated. Here, Domicile plays a very important role because most of the states don’t allow non-domicile holders and a few which allow the percentage of seats for the non-domicile holders ranges from 15% to 50 %.
